Someday, Maybe?

-The Selby

My New Ear Candy

Foals, the quintet from England sing such aptly titled songs, like 'The French Open', which is so bubbly and fun, it simply makes my ears smile. Their songs have very mathematical drumbeats and very interesting use of percussive rhythms. It's a good feeling kind of album.

Booties

My obsession with booties will never die.

Vintage

Purchases from the UWSP Halloween Sale. I spent $20 today on four clothing items. 3 vintage dresses and a skirt that I'm going to wear as a cape. Such great finds! It was pretty unbelievable.

the reflective soul of our society

The descriptive value most often assigned to the arts is the phrase quality of life. For me, this is a sad understatement of the power and importance of the arts to the very fabric of our lives and potential as human beings. Replace the word quality with the word essence and we are closer to the truth. In a world that increasingly emphasizes information as the be all and end all and rational thought as the supreme accomplishment, the arts offer a fundamental alternative. They are the portal – the path to uncover and communicate our feelings and awareness of the world. Creative spirit and creative thinking are essential to our ability to invent, to evolve and to express. They are a testament to our inherent ability to imagine, our needful desire to lend form to mystery, to source impulse and instinct, to access the unknown and unknowable that cannot be expressed or understood with the analytical mind. Contributing to a sense of self-worth that is not dependent on material possessions, the arts expand our capacity to live full lives with a heightened awareness of the world around us. Between the polarity of creation and destruction – the beginning and the end that brackets all human existence – the arts are the epitome of the creative spirit. As the reflective soul of our society, they lead toward resolving conflict in the world by the depth of their perception of the human condition.
